Another morphometric study published

Markers001

Another study using the innovative statistical technique of geometric morphometrics has been published in the American journal Markers (Markers 31, pages 96–133). This is the result of a second major study of some 325 inscriptions from 24 sites in north Germany and southern Denmark. In addition to detailed analysis of lettering, it questions the current theory of the origins of the lettering styles carved on the gravestones and suggests that the influences were far more complex than originally thought and that they probably originate from the north rather than the west. The third in a series of studies using geometric morphometrics is due for publication in the near future. This is an analysis of inscriptions in north-west Ireland
